Web Log Entry #0062, Saturday, April 19, 2003: Day 152
Anchorage Sunrise: 6:28am Sunset: 9:30pm High Temp: 52° Low Temp: 27° Today is notable because it is the first day I've been outside here WITHOUT A COAT. Yes, the ever-increasing sunlight (over 15 hours in a day now) has allowed the temperatures creep up into the Non-Life-Threatening range. It's weird how five months below freezing makes 50° seem tropical. To celebrate, I went to Anchorage's biggest mall, the Dimond (their spelling, not mine*) Center. (The video arcade has a shooting-gallery game that I've become fond of. I'm tantalizingly close to getting into the top-10 best scores. When I have some spare time, I go play a few games. It gets me out of the house, and around people so I don't lose all social skills.) The Easter Bunny was set up in one of the open areas, apparently so kids could sit on his lap, get a photo snapped and tell him what they want for Christmas. I'm not saying that this Easter Bunny was creepy, but his unnervingly tall and skinny frame made the head and perpetual goofy grin made him look like a refugee from a demented horror movie. I don't think I was the only one who thought this; kids weren't going near him. I considered asking him if this is the pinnacle of his career, but I can't read his mood and he may not be open to friendly taunting. It just wouldn't be right to have the Easter Bunny beat the crap out of me. * A note about the mall's name from life-long Alaskan Scott Woodham. |
