Evan's Eyes

Web Log Entry #0061, Tuesday, April 15, 2003: Day 148

Anchorage Sunrise: 6:40am Sunset: 9:20pm High Temp: 41° Low Temp: 29°

I opened the door to head for work, and the parking area was white with snow. Not deep, maybe half an inch, but a stern reminder that winter weather can happen at any time. I proudly reacted the way a true Alaskan does; I ignored it. Ha ha! It's only SNOW! Besides, something more interesting happened today: I received a commendation for my contribution to a group in the client's organization, and not the one that I work for! It turns out that a set of spreadsheets I built to verify process is terribly useful to these other people. All I do is let them copy the files now and then, and I'm their savior. This isn't my first award in my Information Technology professional career (you may know that I'm a 1996 recipient of AT&T's CPD award, and am known in IT circles as the Award-Winning Evan Nichols). Still, I consider this an honor, especially since it came with a $10 gift certificate for lattes. My plan is to sell it, receive 15,000 more of these awards, sell those and retire! (And I could even save some to get free coffee!) If this works, I could make a fortune running "How To Retire Through Winning Awards" Seminars, and then retire AGAIN!
