ZOOLANDER
Who doesn't love laughing at stupid people? There's nothing like watching them excitedly explaining how they can get high licking toads or how certain presidential elections were won fair and square. We can all giggle when then smack into a closed glass door because, hey, it isn't us! We're not like them! It's no longer Politically Correct, however, to ridicule those Less Fortunate Than Ourselves, so nobody could make a movie about differently-intellected People of Minority. No, to be ridiculed, they have to be the top echelon; wealthy European-American males that are Very Good Looking! They have everything, except brains! So let's make fun of them! This is all good fun, but if I went on about this for ninety minutes, you'd have much the same experience as if you watched "Zoolander." It's an amusing idea that apparently worked well in a five-minute sketch, but a whole movie of it is like a Philip Glass concert on a car horn. There are bits scattered throughout that are genuinely funny, but I had the first real laugh one hour and twenty-three minutes in (and if you're not a supermodel, you'll realize that's almost at the end of the film).
If you LOVE Ben Stiller and his sense of humor, you're more likely to enjoy this movie than if you didn't get "Something About Mary" or squirmed your way through "Flirting with Disaster" or "Meet the Parents". If you watch it with a group of friends, make a drinking game of it. Everyone drinks when a famous person makes a cameo! Don't plan on driving home, you'll drink a lot. But then, maybe inebriation will help you relate to those poor, misunderstood supermodels.
If you liked the movies below, you'll probably like this one (and vice versa):
