LUCKY BREAK
Theater, like medicine and philosophy, is best left to the professionals. We all know the pain of being subjected to bad acting, and I'm not going to mention any names (Theresa Russell), but you can probably (Keaneu Reeves) think of performers whose acting skills can stun laboratory rats at fifty yards (Pauly Shore, Adam Sandler, Chris Kattan, Rob Schnieder). However, watching professional actors playing amateur thespians putting on a show can be quite entertaining. That's only half of "Lucky Break." The homegrown production in this movie happens in a British prison, filled with quirky yet non-threatening convicts scheming to escape. There's even a love story (and it's not what you're thinking, there's a woman involved)! Unless you're tired of Amateur-Musical-Theater-Convict-Prison-Break-Love-Story movies, this one's worth checking out. Bonus points for Christopher Plummer as the musical-writing warden, and Timothy Spall as a musician on a streak of bad luck.
