As the saying goes, "If you can't say anything nice, be a conservative radio talk-show host." Wait, that's not right, but I can't recall what it's really supposed to be, as I'm still under the influence of this movie. The point is, I'll try to say some REALLY GOOD things about this film, to balance out what will follow. Here I go...
- ) It's filmed in Portland.
- ) The sound editing was solid, I mean, when the characters were speaking, you could hear what they were saying and I didn't notice any odd things in the background like the Key Grip slurping his coffee.
- ) Um........ Okay, I'm tapped.
I can't think of anything else that was really good. The rest ranged from "Mediocre" to "Rather Lame." The annoying part is that the box at the video store said it was "Hilarious!" (you may be familiar with my belief in the need for regulation of superlatives in movie reviews to prevent this sort of deception!). "Bongwater" is like hanging out with bunch of stoners you just met. Not much happens, the conversations are aimless and uninteresting, and even though a few of these people are attractive, you quickly realize you don't really want to get to know any of them better. At least with a video you don't have to sit there wondering how much longer until you can leave. If you're a die-hard fan of Luke Wilson, Alicia Witt, Amy Locane, Brittany Murphy, Jack Black, Andy Dick, Jeremy Sisto, or Jamie Kennedy, you can watch this film to see them. If you're going to spend an evening at home just getting stoned, watching this will fit right in and you won't be missing much when you can't remember a thing about it the next day. But then, if you're living the life, do you need to watch a movie about it?
If you liked the movies below, you'll probably like this one (and vice versa):
