Web Log Entry #0056, Wednesday, March 26, 2003: Day 128
Anchorage Sunrise: 6:43am Sunset: 7:28pm High Temp: 44° Low Temp: 24° I had lunch with a moose! Well, he probably didn't think so, but I stood at a conference room window and ate my leftover Kung Pao chicken while he munched tree branches across the street. He ignored the cars driving by, only the width of a sidewalk away. When some people walked into the adjoining parking lot he looked at them, and they took a different route. This made me feel better. Apparently some of the locals see moose so often they stop thinking of them as wild animals and treat with all the caution usually applied to a corner mailbox. The newspapers had an article recently about a guy who got too close to a moose. He survived, but with numerous broken bones. I was glad that I didn't witness a stomping. After I finished my lunch, the moose wandered across the parking lot toward an apartment complex. I assume he lives there. Since few moose have jobs, he probably shares an apartment with other moose. I'd imagine that they're pretty good neighbors, except during rutting season with all the bellowing and antler-clashing. Still, it's better than living next to college students.
