Web Log Entry #0040, Wednesday, February 5, 2003: Day 79
Anchorage Sunrise: 9:11am Sunset: 5:17pm High Temp: 44° Low Temp: 36° What do you get when you put a bunch of Alaskan technical professionals in a room together? An AITP (Association of Information Technology Professionals) meeting! (Hmm, accurate, but the punchline needs work.) I was looking forward to seeing an Alaskan-style gathering of techies. I expected some drinkin' and spittin' round a campfire, everyone trying to top everyone else's incredible stories of programming prowess, and maybe a fist-fight or two. Well, even in Alaska, technical people are quite tame. They served a catered dinner at regular tables (WITH silverware), and instead of boastin' and tall-tale-spinnin', one guy gave Power-point presentation about a development project. I was disappointed, but I guess rough-and-tumble programmers were a bit too much to hope for.
