Web Log Entry #0027, Tuesday, December 17, 2002: Day 29
The day before I flew home, the Anchorage high temperature was in the low 20s, with light snow. The Alaskans would give me this You'll-Be-Sorry look and say "You're going to Portland? It's raining there!" Oooh, rain! Cancel my plans!
I was going to say "Yes, it's raining, but WELL ABOVE FREEZING, compared to Single-Digit Cold, Snow, Ice, and Near-Constant Dark, and Possibly-Carnivorous Moose?" But they must cling to their illusions. If they all thought rationally about what they endure, there would be a stampede of Alaskans moving to Washington, Oregon, and maybe even California. So I just looked a little sad and said "I know. I'll try to be brave." So I'm an Enabler.... Since I'm back in Civilization, I will suspend entries to this log until I return to the Freezing North on January 1st.
