The Whole Nine Yards
To be honest, I was expecting to hate this movie. Normally, Matthew Perry appears to act as a cinematic black hole that sucks away any humor or charm a film might have. For some reason, this doesn't happen here. It helps that he's surrounded by a more talented supporting cast (and it's still a bad sign to be described as "almost as good as Rosanna Arquette"), but kudos to the writer and director for making it work. Much credit also goes to Bruce Willis, who makes the neighborly killer-next-door compelling. Many reviewers didn't find the quirky humor to be innovative or sustained, but it made me laugh. Don't expect too much, and you may be pleasantly surprised.
